I must say that when I was on holiday this time I really did just switch off and zone out from work. But after some rest I couldn’t help but start noticing well decorated places. These are some of the little hotels I came across on the island of Koh Samet and then in Bangkok.
I actually found the most fabulous places in parts of the island that I would not have imagined would be so quirky and just well put together.
As you will see I often got a little distracted with the beautiful views and forgot about taking photo’s of the decor 🙂 And unfortuntely I use my iphone, so some of the shots are fabulous and others just don’t really make the grade and are a little blurry, but it just seems sad to loose them.
This was a fabulous little hotel on the island, with lovely bungalows. Some of the areas had got a little tired, but I just loved the little bar that was above the main road on the island and it had the most amazing sea view. The really fun part were these gorgeous over sized plastic shocking pink poodles and sheep in the garden. The extra attention to detail was really good, it was really very simple, but the painted bar stools and bright coloured cut out metal fish on the walls, and fun lights really made it stand out in a crowd.
This was just a cute little home on the other side of the road from the bar, and as you can see a tree is growing through the middle of the house. Not sure who lived there, and if it was built round the tree or the tree grew after the house was built.
This hotel was just so well done and now that I look at my photo’s I realise I did not take that many photo’s of the decor and got very wrapped up with the view. It had a really industrial feel to it, all the staff had orange overalls on and funky takkies. The deck and chill area stretched out over the sea. I can imagine in high season its the top party spot.
Excuse the grumpy face as this is the only photo I have of the bar area, you can see the big orange drums with corrigated iron behind them and loads of chunky concrete, making up this chunky fun bright bar and restaurant area.
This was a great little beach bar along the way.
We found a lovely little cove on the quiet side and more mountainous side of the island with 3 exclusive hotels. Its was a little difficult to photograph and they are doing maintenance at this time of the year.
And then back to Bangkok – On top of the World
This is a fabulous hotel in the middle of Bangkok that has an awesome restaurant more then half way up the sky scraper. Very modern well appointed restaurant with one of the most fantastic views. As you come out the lift there is this black wall with tiny lights outlining their sea gods face, very dramatic and effective.
